Frequently Asked Questions

How can I perform with the International Pride Orchestra?
Submit an application here

Do I need to identify as LGBTQ+ to participate?

No. We welcome musicians who identify as LGBTQ+ and allies from all over the world.

When and where does the orchestra perform?
The IPO gathers once per year for a week during Pride month for rehearsals and performances. Each year, a different host city will be selected for an IPO performance. Think your city should host? Let us know!

What does a donation support?
Your donation helps commission new works by LGBTQ+ artists, covers concert venue costs, and engages guest artists. Consider helping another musician by making a contribution above the $200 suggested donation. If you are unable to donate or would like to help IPO in other ways, please visit our volunteering page to get involved!

Does the International Pride Orchestra cover travel or lodging costs?
The IPO is focused on its charitable mission to raise awareness and funds for LGBTQ+ causes. All members are expected to cover their own travel and accommodations. A limited number of homestay lodging may be available depending on the city.

When do I book my travel and lodging?

After applications have been reviewed, a confirmation of participation will be sent to members.

Do I need to secure a visa?
Perhaps. This will vary depending on the country you are traveling from. If you apply for a visa, indicate that you are travelling as a tourist, not with the purpose to perform a concert (this might require work permit paperwork).

What is the daily schedule?
Typically, there will be a morning and late afternoon rehearsal on each day. Plan to be available between 9am-6pm. On concert days, we will have an afternoon rehearsal and evening performance. A detailed schedule will be provided closer to the event date.

What events will be taking place outside of rehearsals? Will I have time to meet others?

Throughout the week, there will be social events and mixers and plenty of time to meet and get to know other musicians. Our concerts will line up with pride activities, so if you want to extend your stay to enjoy NYC's Pride Weekend, you can make a vacation of it!
